Changing Lives Through the Legacy of Rebecca’s Light

The Rebecca K. Hyland Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded to help carry the light Rebecca was in the world. Whether it was her work as a daughter, sibling, friend, student, volunteer or employee, Rebecca commanded excellence of herself and would settle for nothing less. The choice to carry her light each day requires that we ask more of ourselves than others ask of us.

Each year the fund awards scholarships to students who are dedicated to learning, service to others and respect and love for people from all walks of life. Awards have been granted to deserving students at the schools Rebecca attended: Gesu School, Walsh Jesuit High School and Loyola University Chicago.

Beginning 2026, a deserving student at Urban Community School also receives a Rebecca K. Hyland Scholarship as does a student at the Transitions and Access Program (TAP) at the University of Cincinnati.

In recognition of Rebecca’s passion for education and her dedication to improving the lives of others, funds have been donated to students in Nicaragua, Afghanistan, and young scholars at Homes of Hope in India. Also, each year a scholarship award is made to one or more students at Cleveland Central Catholic High School. Finally, the fund also donates to the Breakthrough Charter School network; these highly successful schools are working to transform education in Cleveland city schools.
